A Creative Exchange

Across Generations

Headlong Futures

Creative Director

As part of my role as Associate Director at Headlong, I led the development of Headlong Futures, a cross-generational creative programme based in Lancaster, designed to bring together young people, older adults, and local artists.

The project centred on shared making, mutual learning, and curiosity. Over a series of workshops and creative sessions, participants explored identity, local history, memory, and the future, culminating in a collaboratively made performance event.

Want to Collaborate

on a Community Project?

If you’re developing an engagement programme, commissioning participatory work, or building partnerships across generations, let’s build something unforgettable.

The Programme Focused On:

  • Intergenerational dialogue through facilitated creative workshops

  • Artistic collaboration between local writers, facilitators, and community participants

  • Themes of legacy, change, and possibility explored through story, performance, and discussion

  • Empowering participants to shape the content and tone of the final piece

The Outcome

Headlong Futures culminated in Acts of Resistance, a new play crafted by award-winning writer Stef Smith and performed by a community cast at the Bristol Old Vic. The production wove together stories gathered from our partner communities across the UK, offering a layered, empathetic look at the social issues affecting people across generations and backgrounds.

This large-scale performance was a testament to the project’s collaborative spirit, bringing lived experience to the centre of the stage.
