[BLANK]

This production of BLANK didn’t begin with the script. It began with a conversation.

Over several weeks, I worked with this company to explore the 100 scenes written by Alice Birch; each one a provocation with no set order, character, or structure. Together, we read, argued, laughed, and sat with the pieces that hit hardest. We chose 30. Not to tell a full story, but to hold space for what felt urgent in that room, at that time, with these people.

I didn’t direct this as a traditional play. BLANK wasn’t built on a beginning, middle, and end. It was a series of collisions—moments of quiet, violence, survival, and resistance. Some felt complete. Others felt like fragments. But every one of them mattered.

This was a piece about lives often ignored. Women shaped by systems: care, justice, control. The stories we chose weren’t easy to stage. They weren’t always easy to watch. But they refused to be left out.

I’m proud of the cast and creative team who brought so much care, courage, and honesty to the process. What we made wasn’t neat. But it was true to what stayed with us.

This version of BLANK was never meant to be whole.

It was built from what we couldn’t let go of.

It was built together.
