Lone Star is set in the backyard of Maynard's local bar, 'Angel's' and we find Roy, (Elizabeth's husband and one-time local, heart-breakin' hero, newly returned from 'Nam), and his brother, Ray, a slower, dowdier version of himself, whose good heart and honest soul gradually brings Roy back to the reality of his new-found, slightly sobering, situation. Together they set about consuming a case of beer whilst Roy regales Ray with his military and amorous exploits. With the arrival of Cletis, the fatuous, newlywed son of the local hardware store owner, the underpinnings of Roy's world begin to collapse as it gradually becomes clear that Ray has grown a little too close to Elizabeth in Roy’s absence and horror of horrors, Cletis has taken up an affair of his own; with Roy’s cherished Thunderbird..
